Justice Department investigates William & Mary scholarship policies
The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating the College of William & Mary over scholarships and programs intended to increase enrollment among Black and Hispanic students, including a privately funded fellowship for Latino and Hispanic students.
William & Mary said it is committed to nondiscrimination, complies with state and federal law, and is cooperating with the investigation. The school is among 45 colleges and universities facing scrutiny from the administration over programs that mention race.
