Lansing police investigate possible link between five deaths

Lansing police chief Robert Backus addressed community concerns on Friday regarding the deaths of five men in the River Trail area, confirming that investigators are exploring the possibility that the cases are related. All five victims were unhoused men who were attacked while sleeping in the early morning hours, according to Backus.

While the cases share similarities, Backus noted a key distinction in the death of 22-year-old Daniel Lusk, who was fatally stabbed and is the only victim with formal charges filed. The police department described all five investigations as active and fluid, emphasizing that they are looking for trends and patterns among the incidents.
