Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame welcomes four new members

The Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame inducted its class of 2026 on Friday at Jackson Field in Lansing, honoring Terry Collins, Bob Welch, Bob Sullivan and Connie Wisniewski.

Collins, the only living inductee, grew up in Midland and played college baseball at Eastern Michigan University before a decade in the minor leagues. He went on to manage in the majors with the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels and New York Mets, leading the Mets to the National League pennant in 2015.

Welch, also an Eastern Michigan alum, helped lead the Hurons to the 1976 College World Series championship game before a 17-year major league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics. He won 211 games, struck out 1,969 batters, captured three World Series titles and won the 1990 American League Cy Young Award. He died in 2014.

Wisniewski, a Detroit native, pitched and played outfield in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1944 to 1952 and is honored in a permanent AAGPBL display at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Sullivan, a Grand Rapids businessman and Detroit Tigers scout, helped send 60 players and four managers to the majors, including Kirk Gibson, Dave Rozema and Al Kaline; a historic Grand Rapids ballpark bears his name. Wisniewski died in 1995 and Sullivan died in February 2026.
