Michigan Democrats finalize statewide ticket at Lansing convention

Michigan Democrats finalized their statewide ticket Saturday at a nominating convention in Lansing, formally backing Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist for secretary of state and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit for attorney general.

State Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks was nominated as gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson’s running mate. Party leaders emphasized unity after a competitive primary earlier this month, though divisions remained visible during the convention.

With both major parties having selected their tickets, Michigan’s general election campaign is underway ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
