Mid-Michigan residents dispose of expired pills on National Drug Takeback Day
Residents across mid-Michigan disposed of unwanted medications on Saturday as part of National Drug Takeback Day. The Michigan State Police opened all 31 of their posts to accept prescription pills for proper disposal.
The event, coordinated with the Drug Enforcement Agency, has been held every April and October for 16 years. Last year, state police collected nearly 650 pounds of pills across Michigan.
Sgt. Ryan Dunlap of the Michigan State Police noted that the volume of expired or unused prescriptions turned in highlights the need for proper medication disposal. Those who missed the event can still bring medications to any MSP post location for disposal in marked red boxes or metal bins.
