MSU campus sets record midterm turnout with 54.7% of students voting
Michigan State University students achieved a record midterm election turnout on Nov. 3, with 54.7% of the 7,450 registered on-campus voters casting ballots. A total of 4,076 votes were submitted across four precincts, including locations at the Union, IM East, and the Kellogg Center, following a line that formed at the Union around noon and persisted until after 9 p.m.
The campus rate surpassed the 47.7% turnout recorded in the 2022 midterms and the 47% rate in 2018, though it remained below the 66.2% seen in the 2024 presidential election. Ingham County as a whole recorded a 59.3% turnout rate, while neighboring Clinton County maintained the highest participation in the region at 66.7%.
