MSU probes response to East Lansing Halloween shootings
Michigan State University is investigating its response to two overnight shootings in East Lansing that left five people injured. President Kevin Guskiewicz explained in a campuswide email that the university did not send an emergency alert because the incidents occurred off campus and no ongoing threat to the campus community had been identified at the time.
The shootings took place in the early hours of November 1 at Linden Street and M.A. C. Avenue, and at Frye Avenue and Stoddard Avenue. Three victims from the first incident are in stable condition, while one of the two victims from the second incident is stable and the other’s condition is unknown. None of the victims or suspects are MSU students.
Guskiewicz stated that the university will work with local public safety partners to clarify roles and identify gaps in current protocols. The university is also investigating the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter, which has been ordered to cease operations following a video showing alleged members using illicit drugs.
