Pelosi calls El-Sayed’s Israel comments wrong in Michigan race

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has criticized Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for his past comments regarding Israel, stating on a podcast that his views are "wrong." Pelosi made the remarks in response to host Donny Deutsch, who argued that some Democratic positions on Israel reflect antisemitism.

El-Sayed, who is running against Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan's closely contested Senate race, has previously described Israel's war in Gaza as a "genocide" and stated he does not believe Israel should be a "Jewish state." He has maintained that his commitment to Jewish safety is equal to his commitment to his own children and that criticizing Israel's actions is not equivalent to antisemitism.

Recent polling indicates the race remains tight, with El-Sayed leading by narrow margins in multiple surveys. A CNN poll released Thursday showed El-Sayed at 49 percent and Rogers at 42 percent, while other recent surveys from Insider Advantage and Marist also found El-Sayed slightly ahead. Both the Cook Political Report and RealClearPolling currently classify the Michigan Senate race as a toss-up.
