Pope Leo XIV receives prayers and appointments ahead of surgery
Pope Leo XIV has received more than 1,500 prayers from global leaders and the American Catholic community, with letters being sent to the Vatican ahead of his upcoming surgery.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella, Giorgia Meloni, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Isaac Herzog, Javier Milei, and Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally have all written prayers for the pope, while President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance have yet to comment.
Leo will be admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital late Tuesday morning, with a stay expected to last about a week; the Prefecture of the Papal Household has canceled all appointments through Oct. 20, and the pope has already convened the bishops’ conferences for the 10th anniversary of Amoris laetitia.
