Restitution ordered for family of Charlotte store clerk killed in 1986

The Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office secured restitution for the family of John Hubbard, who was beaten to death in 1986 while closing a Charlotte grocery store. Roger Ruthruff was convicted and sentenced to life without parole.

The order covers Hubbard’s family’s lost income, pension and funeral costs. Ruthruff became eligible for resentencing after a Michigan Supreme Court ruling involving people who were 18 when they committed murder.
