Roth seeks third term in 104th state House seat amid two challengers

Incumbent Rep. John Roth, R-Interlochen, is running for a third term in Michigan’s 104th state House district, which covers roughly 1,700 square miles across six counties in northwestern lower Michigan, including Frankfort, Kalkaska, Buckley, and Honor.

Roth’s campaign focuses on infrastructure, affordable housing, and local economic development, citing the need for improved water and sewer systems and support for small businesses and farmers.

He faces Democrat Mitch Distin, a biologist and ecologist, and Libertarian Alexander Jarvis, a Manton resident, with Distin emphasizing community‑centered governance and Jarvis targeting market‑friendly reforms. Roth, who has spent most of his life in northern Michigan, drives 50,000 miles annually to Lansing and local meetings.
