Senate rejects measure urging Trump to end Iran war

The Senate rejected a symbolic resolution Thursday urging President Donald Trump to end the U.S. war with Iran. Four Republicans joined Democrats in supporting it, while Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the only Democrat to vote against the measure.

The House approved the resolution in July, but it would not have required Trump’s signature or veto. Most Republicans continued to back the war, even as gas, diesel, fertilizer and food prices rose and 19 U.S. service members died. Some Republican candidates, including Michigan’s Mike Rogers, have recently called for ending the war amid unfavorable public opinion.
