Sisters buy Gwen Frostic studio with plans for repairs

Sisters Amy and Sarah Blessing bought the Gwen Frostic Prints business and the property rights to Frostic’s 21,000-square-foot Benzie County studio in late May after more than four years on the market.

The studio, opened in 1964 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021, sustained winter damage, including roof damage and the demolition of an unused storage building. The sisters hope to address renovations over the next few months and clear overgrown trails around the property.

Sarah Blessing said the new owners are learning from longtime employees and want to maintain the 62-year-old business while preserving Frostic’s legacy. Frostic, who died in 2001, built a business from prints depicting Michigan plants and wildlife.
