Trump administration pledges $15 billion to farmers before midterms
The Trump administration has announced $15 billion in payments and initiatives for agriculture producers in the weeks leading up to the midterm elections. The funds are intended to offset higher costs for diesel and fertilizer, which have risen due to tariffs and the war in Iran.
More than half of the total, an $8 billion one-time payment plan, will address soaring diesel prices. The Department of Agriculture also announced $13.8 billion in safety net program payments for the 2025 crop year, along with $5 billion in guaranteed loans for ranchers and fishermen.
Additional funds include $1.8 billion for conservation program participants, $573 million for fertilizer manufacturing, and $57 million for expanding meat processors. The agency also plans to purchase up to $472.5 million in agricultural commodities to support producers and charitable programs.
