Trump names Will Scharf as next White House counsel

Donald Trump announced Sunday that Will Scharf, his staff secretary, will become White House counsel and assistant to the president effective Sept. 1.

Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is leaving the administration for the private sector. Warrington previously served as Trump’s personal counsel and as a lawyer for his 2024 campaign.

Trump said Scharf had served as a federal prosecutor and represented him in cases, including at the Supreme Court. Scharf also led the National Capital Planning Commission, which approved Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project.

The change comes months before the midterm elections, with Democrats pledging investigations into Trump and his administration if they win in November.
