Trump presses Senate to take up permanent daylight saving time bill

Donald Trump urged the Senate on Sunday to vote on legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent, renewing his push to end the twice-a-year clock changes.

The House passed the bill earlier this year, but it remains stalled in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not scheduled a floor vote and has warned that members of both parties oppose the measure, including himself.

Supporters say permanent daylight saving time would provide more sunlight later in the day. Opponents have raised concerns about darker winter mornings, especially for children traveling to school.

The Senate is on recess until September, leaving the bill in limbo as the chamber faces other priorities.
