Trump rallies in upstate new York to boost economy and push for Nobel Peace Prize
On Friday, President Donald Trump delivered a rally at the Oncenter in Syracuse, New York, where he promoted Republican nominee Bruce Blakeman and criticized Democratic incumbent Gov. Kathy Hochul. Trump also used the event to argue that the Nobel Peace Prize he has long sought should have been awarded to South African jurist Navanethem “Navi” Pillay for her work on justice and accountability for war crimes and genocide.
During the rally, Trump highlighted his economic agenda, noting that the poverty rate has reached its lowest level in American history and that job numbers and the stock market have surged. He also urged oil retailers to lower prices, citing a recent drop of a few cents per gallon and a 15‑cent increase over the past month, according to AAA. An Associated Press‑NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released on Oct. 1 found 71% of U.S. adults disapproved of Trump’s handling of Iran, 28% approved, and only 26% approved of his handling of the economy, a new low.
The rally was part of a broader strategy to strengthen Republican support ahead of the November 3 congressional elections. Blakeman, the Republican nominee for New York governor, used the event to emphasize his independence and his ties to the president, while Democratic candidate Cait Conley and incumbent Gov. Hochul are also vying for the same seat. Trump’s remarks on the economy and gas prices are intended to resonate with ordinary voters and help secure a Republican majority in Congress.
