Trump weighs moving White House press corps to new location
President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is considering relocating the White House press corps from the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room to create space for other administrative needs. The president stated in a Truth Social post that he intends to use the vacated area for "very badly needed space," clarifying that the move is not related to the indoor swimming pool located directly beneath the room.
The comments follow a New York Times report on October 20 suggesting Trump had discussed replacing the briefing room with an indoor pool. Trump dismissed the pool idea in a separate Saturday post, calling the notion of bringing back the old swimming pool "a stupid thing" and describing the press as "Fake News" that might be moved to a "less obnoxious location."
The James S. Brady Press Briefing Room was constructed above the White House’s indoor swimming pool during the Richard Nixon administration to accommodate the growing demand for television news. The pool, which opened in 1933, was originally funded by a New York Daily News campaign for President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
