Vice President Vance meets with Michigan nun after immigration town hall
Vice President JD Vance engaged in a brief conversation with Sr. Nancy Sylvester of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, following a CBS town hall event in Flat Rock, Michigan, that aired on October 17. Sylvester, who represented her congregation at the October 15 recording, asked Vance about the impact of Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions on immigrant communities in Michigan and along the southern border.
During the broadcast, Sylvester interjected to ask a follow-up question regarding how Vance’s Catholic faith informs his approach to immigration policy. After the segment, Vance spoke with Sylvester about the work of her religious order and offered to connect her with his staff. The following day, Vance’s chief of staff confirmed that Sylvester would be put in touch with Tom Homan, the White House border czar, to discuss specific concerns raised by the sisters.
Sylvester stated that the meeting with Homan is currently being scheduled. The encounter occurred as the sisters sought to communicate the concerns of immigrant communities in and near Detroit, where they minister directly, and to explore common ground on faith-based values in immigration enforcement.
