Victims outraged as cancer doctor seeks early release again
On October 14, 2026, Michigan oncologist Farid Fata filed a motion for compassionate release, seeking to be released from federal prison by December 11, 2050. The request, dated September 29, 2026, follows a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice that notified victims of his latest plea. Hester, a 72‑year‑old resident of Clarkston, said the motion is a “pure evil” that will help her survive on weekly infusions.
Hester is among hundreds of people who received the DOJ letter and who are still dealing with the consequences of Fata’s 2013 arrest on federal health‑care fraud charges. She noted that victims “are still hurting” and that “everyone that I know that’s alive that was treated by him are struggling physically.” Local 4 reached out to Fata’s representatives but has not yet received a response.
Victims and their families have until 5 p.m. Friday, October 23, to submit written statements to U.S. District Judge Jonathan Grey about Fata’s request. Statements can be emailed to [email protected] or [email protected]. Erika, who has reported in Michigan since 2010, is part of The Investigators on Local 4 and can be contacted for further information.
