Williamston family receives support after fatal bicycle crash

A 12-year-old boy died and his 13-year-old sister was hospitalized after an SUV struck them while they were riding bicycles in Williamston on Sept. 5. Both children were wearing helmets, and Michigan State Police said drugs and alcohol were not factors.

A fundraiser organized for the Shepard family raised more than $40,000 in its first six hours to help cover expenses. State police said the crash investigation remains ongoing.
