West Bloomfield man dies after drowning in lake, sheriff says

A 19-year-old West Bloomfield Township man drowned Sunday night after struggling while swimming in Pine Lake, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities identified him as Jauwan Walter Hayes Jr. The sheriff's office said Hayes had been swimming in a designated area between two floating platforms when witnesses saw him struggle at the surface and go underwater.

Bystanders brought Hayes to shore, where paramedics performed lifesaving measures before taking him to a hospital. He was pronounced dead later Sunday night, and the medical examiner ruled the death an accidental drowning.
