Dry weather advances Michigan crops but raises yield concerns

Warm, dry weather has pushed crop development in Michigan, while limited rainfall has raised concerns about yield potential in parts of the state.

Saginaw Bay farmer John Burk said soil health practices have helped buffer dry conditions so far, but corn kernels could fail to fully develop without more rain.

USDA rated Michigan corn 57 percent good to excellent, with 51 percent in the dough stage. Soybeans were rated 54 percent good to excellent, with 77 percent setting pods.
