Alaska Senate primary draws national attention in crowded field
Alaska voters faced a crowded primary Tuesday featuring Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, Democratic former Rep. Mary Peltola and another Republican named Dan Sullivan. The race is seen as a potential factor in determining control of the U.S. Senate.
Under Alaska’s open-primary system, all candidates appear on one ballot, with the four top vote-getters advancing to a ranked-choice general election. Outside Republican and Democratic groups identified the Senate contest as a top target.
The ballot also included primaries for Alaska’s lone U.S. House seat and governor, along with a measure that would restore campaign contribution limits struck down by a federal appeals court five years ago.
