El-Sayed says faith attacks distract from cost of living

Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump and other Republicans are attacking his faith and ethnicity to distract voters from the economic struggles facing Americans nearly two years into Trump's second term.

In an interview with ABC News Live, El-Sayed stated, "they think they can point to my name and my faith and distract us from the fact that we can't afford our gas and we can't afford our groceries." he added that an ally that takes money to push the U.S. Into wars it should not be fighting is not a true ally, a comment directed at Israel.

The race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers is considered pivotal for Senate control, with a late September Fox News poll showing the contest tied within the margin of error. El-Sayed also criticized the trade war with Canada, noting that Michigan households have faced an average additional cost of $5,600 due to tariffs since January 2025.
