Among the sites where federal observers were spotted are the Gier Community Center on the north side and Epicenter of Worship Church on the south side. Swope said he has instructed poll workers to monitor the presence of the federal staff.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced in October that the Justice Department would deploy monitors to seven Michigan cities, including Lansing and East Lansing. Nessel noted that federal law treats the monitors like any other members of the public, prohibiting them from questioning voters, handling ballots, or touching voting equipment.
