Battery plant begins production in Lansing
LG Energy Solution has started production at its 226-acre battery cell plant in Lansing after investing more than $2 billion in the facility since 2022. The plant currently employs about 900 people and is expected to reach 1,700 workers at full capacity.
The facility produces lithium-iron phosphate cells for energy storage systems and nickel-manganese-cobalt cells for Toyota electric vehicles. It targets more than 35 gigawatt-hours of annual capacity and will supply batteries for future utility storage projects, including those involving DTE Energy.
