Bomb found at Chelsea gas station neutralized by State police
A suspected pipe bomb was discovered at a Chelsea gas station Friday morning, prompting a multi-agency response before the item was safely disposed of.
The Chelsea Police Department received a call around 7:30 a.m. Friday from the Speedway gas station at 930 S. Main St. reporting a possible pipe bomb on the property.
Responding officers confirmed the item resembled an explosive device and blocked off the area, according to police. The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called in to examine it, and after inspection the device was rendered safe at the scene. Chelsea Police are working alongside the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Speedway Corporation as the investigation continues.
