Congress leaves little time to finish 2027 funding bills
Congress is four days into fiscal year 2027, but none of the 12 annual appropriations bills has passed both chambers. A continuing resolution passed before the Oct. 1 deadline keeps the government funded through Dec. 11; three bills have passed the House.
The House and Senate are in recess until after the midterm elections, leaving lawmakers limited time to complete the funding process when they return. Negotiations have repeatedly stalled during the current Congress, and the election results could affect talks.
