Democrats expand House target list to 58 GOP-held seats for midterms

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has added a dozen Republican-held House seats to its list of midterm targets, bringing the total to 58 districts nationwide. The expanded map includes districts in swing states such as Nevada as well as GOP strongholds including Indiana, Arkansas and Tennessee.

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene said in a statement that Republicans considered 'safe' have passed policies hurting working families. The list now includes the district of National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Rep. Richard Hudson of North Carolina, along with other incumbents and several open seats.

Democrats need only a small number of seat gains to flip control of the House for the remainder of the president's term. Targeted races include Arkansas, where 2022 gubernatorial nominee Chris Jones is challenging six-term Rep. French Hill, and a New York seat vacated by Rep. Elise Stefanik, who is not seeking reelection.

In Florida, Democrats point to a Tampa Bay-area district represented by Rep. Gus Bilirakis that became more Democratic after a court-ordered redistricting process. Party leaders are eyeing a former Air Force surgeon as a potential challenger there, with a nominee to be chosen this month.
