Eaton County murder victim’s family awarded restitution after resentencing
The family of John Hubbard, who was killed in Eaton County in 1986, has been awarded restitution after the man convicted in his death was resentenced and became eligible for release.
Roger Ruthruff was originally sentenced to life in prison without parole for first-degree murder. He was later resentenced after Michigan decisions struck down mandatory life sentences for people who were 20 or younger when they committed murder.
The restitution covers about 40 years of lost income and pension benefits, along with funeral expenses, according to the Eaton County prosecutor’s office.
