Eaton County road employee killed in construction zone crash

On Tuesday, a 24‑year‑old road commission employee was killed in a construction zone crash on Lansing Road in Eaton County. The collision occurred at about 2:30 p.m. and involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Kenworth sanitation truck, pushing the pickup into three road commission trucks. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash happened while the road was temporarily closed for work, with flag workers directing traffic and trucks parked nearby. The 33‑year‑old driver from Charlotte was stopped by a flag worker’s directions, and the Kenworth driver from Owosso could not stop in time, causing the collision. The pickup driver and a passenger received minor injuries.

The Road Commission offices will remain closed until Monday, and residents can report road issues at https://eatoncountyroad.com/report-a-problem/ or call 911 for emergencies. Lt Rene Gonzalez of the Michigan State Police’s District 1 noted that the incident is a reminder of the dangers road crews face and urged drivers to slow down and stay focused. The commission honored the employee as a valued member of the ECRC family.
