Gun shop employee charged after Southfield robbery investigation

A gun shop employee was charged after police said he lied about details in a shooting during a July robbery in Southfield.

Police said Marquise Massey, 33, was charged with multiple felonies after allegedly running out of Action Impact with two guns on July 19. He was arrested July 21, and officers recovered one of the suspected stolen guns.

Investigators initially were told Massey fired at employee Thomas Beck, 67, while fleeing. Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said surveillance later showed Beck fired at Massey during the chase, returned to the store, switched the handgun he had been holding with one from a shelf and hid the used gun in a drawer.

Beck was charged Aug. 5 with tampering with evidence and lying to a police officer. Police said he requested an attorney when questioned about switching the gun.
