Ionia prepares for sold-out bluegrass festival and thousands of visitors
Ionia was preparing Friday for the inaugural Freak Fair, a sold-out, two-day bluegrass festival at the Ionia County Fairgrounds expected to draw more than 27,000 people. Temporary campgrounds opened around the city, while vendors, musicians and festivalgoers gathered downtown ahead of the event.
City officials said they had coordinated with organizers and public safety agencies to address increased traffic and parking demand. Additional officers from local, county and state agencies were expected to assist during the weekend, while businesses prepared for a potential boost from visitors.
