Lansing man convicted in 2024 murder and dismemberment case

A Lansing jury found Marcus Hayes guilty of first-degree murder and mutilating a dead body in the 2024 killing of 25-year-old Zacarri Taylor, the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office said. Hayes was charged alongside his brother, Leonard Hayes, and Terrance Jones.

Leonard Hayes was previously sentenced to life without parole, while Jones pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact and received probation and community service, court records show. Marcus Hayes is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 20 in Lansing’s 30th Circuit Court.
