MHA Race of the Week: attorney general candidates highlighted for 2026 Election
The MHA Race of the Week series provided voters in Eaton County with background on key races, candidates and ballot proposals for the 2026 General Election, available through the MHA Election webpage.
Doug Lloyd, the Eaton County prosecuting attorney, ran as the Republican nominee for Michigan attorney general. With more than 30 years of experience as a prosecutor, he previously served as chief assistant prosecutor and led Eaton County’s Economic Crimes Unit, and was a former president of the Michigan Prosecutors Association. His campaign emphasized fair prosecution, constitutional rights, support for law enforcement and combating corruption.
Eli Savit, the Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney, ran as the Democratic nominee for Michigan attorney general. A former public school teacher, he later clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg and served as senior legal counsel for the city of Detroit. His campaign highlighted protecting workers and consumers, holding powerful interests accountable, combating corporate pollution and defending Michiganders’ rights and freedoms.
