Judge rules Justice Department voter roll check unlawful

The decision, brought by watchdog group Common Cause, represents a setback for President Donald Trump’s effort to expand federal control over election administration ahead of the November 3 midterms, with his Republican Party seeking majorities in both houses of Congress.
The Justice Department is reviewing the ruling, and a separate case in which Sooknanan blocked the Trump administration’s expanded SAVE database last month has been temporarily paused by the Supreme Court, potentially affecting the timing of voter roll reviews in the 90 days before the upcoming election.
