Michigan ballot measure could restrict political giving by utilities and contractors

Michigan voters may decide in November whether to restrict political contributions from certain executives, board members and owners connected to regulated utilities and businesses with more than $250,000 in annual government contracts.

The Board of State Canvassers approved a ballot summary this week for the proposal. Opponents have asked the Michigan Supreme Court to block it, while the Legislature could enact it before the election.
