Michigan court blocks Kalshi sports wagers under preliminary injunction

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel secured a preliminary injunction blocking KalshiEx LLC from offering online sports wagers in Michigan. The order requires the company to geofence Michigan residents and anyone inside the state from accessing the sports betting contracts, with violations subject to a $500,000-per-day fine.

Nessel sued Kalshi in March, alleging the prediction market company violated Michigan’s Lawful Sports Betting Act by offering unlicensed sports betting without approval from the Michigan Gaming Control Board. The case was returned to Ingham County Circuit Court after a federal court rejected Kalshi’s attempt to move it.

The injunction follows a temporary restraining order Nessel obtained in June that halted Kalshi’s Michigan sports betting operation and advertising.
