Michigan removes more than 20,000 people from sex offender registry
More than 20,000 people have been removed from Michigan’s sex offender registry after a Sept. 9 state Supreme Court ruling found that people who committed offenses before July 2011 could not be required to follow registry rules enacted later.
The court ruled the requirements violated the U.S. and Michigan constitutions. Among those removed was Larry Nassar, who was convicted in Ingham and Eaton counties and remains imprisoned under state and federal sentences. The source did not identify any change to those sentences.
