Michigan Removes more than 20,000 people from sex offender registry

Michigan has removed more than 20,000 people from its sex offender registry following a Sept. 9 state Supreme Court ruling. The unanimous decision found that applying current registry requirements to offenses committed before July 2011 violated the U.S. and Michigan constitutions because those rules were not in place when the offenses occurred.

Larry Nassar was among those removed, the Eaton County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office confirmed. He remains in prison, serving state and federal sentences totaling decades. About 43,000 people were registered or required to register when the court issued its ruling.
