Michigan voters to consider constitutional convention question

Michigan voters this year will decide whether to convene a state constitutional convention in 2027, a process that could lead to edits or a rewrite of the state constitution.

The state constitution requires voters to be asked every 16 years whether to hold a convention. The last three times the question appeared on the ballot, voters rejected it by wide margins.

If voters approve a convention, an election for 148 delegates would be held in 2027. Those delegates would meet to consider changes ranging from small revisions to a full overhaul, though they might not agree on any proposal.
