Morocco’s CPI rises 0.8% in August on higher food, fuel prices

Morocco’s consumer prices climbed 0.8% in August, according to the High Commission for Planning. The rise was driven by a 0.9% increase in food prices and a 0.7% rise in non‑food items.

Food items saw the sharpest gains, with fish and seafood, milk, cheese, and eggs each up 2.8%. Meat rose 2.2%, vegetables 1.0%, and coffee, tea, and cocoa edged up 0.3%. Fruit prices fell 1.9% from July, while fuel prices jumped 9.8% over the month.

The monthly increase varied across the country, with Al Hoceima recording the largest rise at 1.6% and Agadir at 1.4%. Other cities such as Tetouan, Safi, and Beni Mellal saw 1.2% gains, while Casablanca and Kenitra posted the lowest rise at 0.5%. Despite the monthly gain, prices were 0.3% lower in August than the same month in 2025.
