New poll puts Trump approval at historic low for a second-term president

A new CNN/SSRS poll found President Donald Trump's approval rating at 34%, with 66% disapproving, a net rating of -32 percentage points. That disapproval level matches the mark Trump held at the end of his first term.

The poll also found softening support among white voters without a college degree, a group that backed Trump by wide margins in 2016, 2020 and 2024. The survey put approval among that group at 46%, with 54% disapproving, a shift CNN said was outside the poll's margin of error.

Asked whether Trump has the right priorities as president, 73% of respondents said no, compared with 27% who said yes. The poll came after a series of White House renovation controversies, including the demolition of the East Wing to build a ballroom and disputes over work near the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial.

The findings follow other recent surveys; an average of CNBC and Washington Post polls had already put Trump's net approval at -22 points. CNN's chief data analyst said that figure made Trump's net approval at this point in a second term the lowest of any president in the 21st century, compared with -8 for Barack Obama and -20 for George W. Bush at similar points in their presidencies.
