Trump blames Biden as voters sour on economy
President Donald Trump is facing weaker public marks on the economy as he continues to blame former President Joe Biden for high prices and economic strain more than 18 months after Biden left office.
Trump’s approval rating on the economy fell from 40% in March 2025 to 32% in July, according to Associated Press-NORC polling. Pew Research Center polling found about 6 in 10 U.S. adults say Trump’s economic policies have made conditions worse.
Inflation peaked at 9.1% in 2022 under Biden, declined to 2.7% by November 2024 and was 3.4% last month, pressured by the war in Iran and high oil prices. Republican pollster Frank Luntz said the public expects the president to focus on making life more affordable.
