U.S. envoys report substantive Ukraine talks after meeting Putin

Trump administration envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner described Sunday’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv as substantive. Witkoff said he was encouraged after the discussions, which followed more than three hours of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the previous day.

The Moscow meeting produced no announced breakthrough on ending the war. Zelenskyy said any agreement would require security guarantees and a dignified post-war peace, while Russia continues to insist on territorial concessions that Ukraine has resisted.

The talks took place amid continued attacks, concerns over Black Sea shipping and warnings that the conflict could escalate. Russian strikes killed one person and injured at least 10 others in Ukraine overnight, while Russia reported one death from a Ukrainian drone strike.
