Weather Service ties Lansing-area Storm damage to straight-line winds

The National Weather Service determined that straight-line winds, not tornadoes, caused damage in the Lansing area during severe storms Sept. 3. No tornadoes were confirmed near Lansing.

The agency said South Central Michigan has recorded about four tornadoes this year, including one in the Grand Ledge area of Eaton County. Meteorologists said tornadoes remain possible into the fall and urged residents to monitor weather information and maintain severe-weather safety plans.
