White House says Trump was warning of Iranian threat to U.S. cities
The White House said Tuesday that President Donald Trump was warning that Iranian nuclear capability could threaten U.S. Cities, not calling for an attack, after remarks at a Monday rally in Nebraska. Trump said Los Angeles and San Diego could be hit and called the war’s economic fallout “a small price to pay” for keeping the country safe.
Communications Director Steven Cheung said the comments had been misunderstood and that the United States was safer because Iran had been stopped. California Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized Trump’s remarks, while Republican congressional nominee Jim Desmond said American cities should not be treated as an acceptable price of war.
