Donalds, Jolly win Florida governor nominations in November matchup

U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds won the Republican nomination for Florida governor, while former Rep. David Jolly won the Democratic nomination Tuesday. They will compete in November to replace Gov. Ron DeSantis, who cannot seek a third consecutive term.

Donalds secured the GOP nomination with President Donald Trump’s endorsement. The contest will test Trump’s influence in Florida and Democrats’ efforts to regain ground in a state that has shifted to the right since 2016. In a separate Senate special-election primary, state lawmaker Angie Nixon won the Democratic nomination to complete Marco Rubio’s term.
