Healthcare advocacy group brings national bus tour to Michigan

The advocacy group Protect Our Care brought its national “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now” bus tour to Kalamazoo this week, highlighting rising health insurance premiums and affordability concerns for Michigan families. State regulators recently approved an average increase of more than 20 percent for individual health insurance plans this year, adding financial pressure on residents.

Sen. Sean McCann, a Democratic candidate for Congress, spoke at the Kalamazoo event, arguing that healthcare costs have outpaced wage growth. He noted that while gas, groceries, and energy prices have risen, wages have increased by less than one percent, making healthcare a critical expense for many households.

Tour organizers are urging Congress to restore enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credits, reverse Medicaid funding reductions, and implement limits on insulin co-pays and annual out-of-pocket expenses. The tour, which also made a stop in Lansing, is making nearly 40 stops across the country over four weeks.
